2016 saw two major electoral upsets: the vote to leave the European Union by the United Kingdom, and the election of Donald Trump as the President of the United States. The unexpectedness of these results, and the significant shifts that have resulted, have enormous ramifications for politics and the world. Gary Younge, Editor-at-large at the Guardian, has been writing about the election from the US and has returned to the UK to share his insights on what happens next.
About the speaker:
Gary Younge is a renowned and highly respected author, broadcaster and journalist. Gary is Editor-at-large for the Guardian, writes a monthly column, Beneath the Radar, for the Nation magazine and is the Alfred Knobler Fellow for The Nation Institute. He has written four books and has participated in several radio and television documentaries on subjects ranging from the tea party to hip hop culture. Gary was awarded an honorary doctorate at London South Bank University in 2007.
