Event description

Description

Being your own boss may sound awesome but when freelancers are projected to become the majority of the workforce in the next decade, with so many other qualified freelancers out there capable of doing the very same things that you do, you aren’t competing like how it was in 2009. And what about getting peer support and establishing a sense of community in the highly competitive freelance market?

The sustainability of your freelance business is essential.

Staying one step ahead of your competitors is essential.

Finding a network and community you could fit in and receive (give) support on eye-level is essential.

Together with Marie Hartlieb and Flor Orpianesi, who formed their own freelance collective, they will tell you how they reposition their power and benefit from a collective (and if it could be something for you) and with Megan Thudium on what's fundamental to the success of your freelance business, finding a reliable community that enables support and resource exchange. She will share her opinion on why networking and connection-building is important to your personal and business well-being.

A bonus will be Erdem Güner, who works exclusively with freelancers and will be there to share his expertise and make you rethink your business model and approach as freelancers to stand out in the game and land the gigs you want.

From the second event of Truth Talk's Freelancer Series, you are going to figure out how you could step ahead in your niche and seek sources of strength that ultimately help build the backbone of your freelancer business.

About the organizer and speakers:

Jessie Jue Xi Hong (Founder & Director) - Jessie is a multilingual Art Mediator, winner of several Europewide Case Solving and Pitch Competitions with Commerzbank AG, Vodafone and CD Projekt coming from Business Sustainability Management and Performing Arts background. She was also the appointed violinist of Embassy of Malaysia in Berlin. In August 2019, Jessie founded the non-profit initiative Truth Talk, together with her coordinator Vadim Kaduchenko, videographer Andrea Bonetti and venue partner 32nd Floor Startup Hub, she aims to bring individuals to inspire and incentivize like-minded yet less courageous individuals.

Erdem Güner - Erdem is a management consultant, (rare) native Berliner, ex-banker for seven years, techie and secretly a nomad who used to run a blog (igetagadget.com) where he wrote about technology and his travels. Driven by his entrepreneurial mindset, he first founded his first corporate design agency MONKEYDO Berlin with two partners and since January 2018, he founded applepie Berlin, a digital marketing agency that works exclusively with freelancers to analyzes, coaches and solves clients' challenges.

Marie Hartlieb - Marie is a concepter, developing holistic concepts for different projects from the overall strategy to the final texts. She has worked in Istanbul and Berlin for different media outlets from TV and film festival to online-magazines and marketing agencies, both as an employee and freelancer. Marie creates projects that use media for inter- and transcultural communication and dialogue, putting important voices into the spotlight. She has co-founded two NGOs and a business and is now working with Flor Orpianesi and Charlotte Schmitz on developing the freelancer collective Friendzone Studio.

Flor Orpianesi - Originally from Barcelona, Flor has moved to and worked in Berlin for the last seven years in various creative teams. Flor is a designer by heart, and a strategist by head. She naturally drifts towards creating rad visual designs that compel both purpose and fun, for brands and projects that want to generate positive impact. Deciding to take a leap, in spring she quit her Senior job to create Friendzone Studio, together with Charlotte Schmitz and Marie Hartlieb – a creative collective that develops meaningful projects and pursues bonding work relationships instead of classic outdated business relationships. She graduated in Design at BAU School of Design in Barcelona in 2012.

Megan Thudium - Megan Thudium is a passionate entrepreneur, freelancer, speaker and founder. She is the founder of MTC | The Content Agency, a content marketing freelance agency supporting B2B technology companies globally and Freelancing Womxn Berlin, a 400-person strong supportive and collaborative community of freelancing women.
