AWS (Amazon Web Service) is a cloud computing platform that enables users to access on-demand computing services like virtual machines, database storage, virtual cloud servers, and much, much more.

About the event!

Join our online workshop and get a practical introduction to cloud computing using Amazon Web Services (AWS). Whether you're curious about launching virtual machines, accessing cloud storage, or exploring how cloud platforms work, this interactive session is the perfect starting point.

Designed for complete beginners, the workshop walks you through AWS fundamentals and includes a hands-on activity where you’ll launch your first cloud-based server using Amazon EC2.

This session is part of QA’s free Teach the Nation series.

  • An AWS account is required to participate in the hands-on exercise.
  • While creating an AWS account is free, you will need to enter valid bank card details during setup.
  • QA is not responsible for any charges incurred if participants choose to use paid AWS services during or after the workshop.
  • QA will not remind you to cancel your AWS account — it is your sole responsibility to manage your AWS usage and subscriptions.
  • You must follow the guidance provided by the tutor during the session to avoid unintentional costs.
  • We will not be able to offer any support before or during the session on setting up an AWS account. This is your responsibility.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to:

  • Understand the key benefits of cloud computing
  • Describe core cloud concepts and infrastructure
  • Use best practices when working in cloud environments
  • Set up and launch a virtual server (EC2 instance) using AWS
  • Navigate the AWS Console confidently

You’ll receive a certificate of completion if you attend the full session.


What you’ll need

  • Laptop or desktop computer
  • Stable internet connection
  • Web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
  • AWS account (created before the session with card details ready)


IMPORTANT: Once you have reserved a spot on Eventbrite, you will need to register your details with us on MS Teams to receive a link to join the workshop when it begins. It is your responsibility to register and obtain the correct Teams link to join the session. Without completing these steps, you will not be able to attend.
