Event description

Description

The TUC in the Midlands is delighted to be hosting a half day Brexit conference to mark the anniversary of the triggering of article 50. Sir Keir Starmer, Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the EU, will be joined by Barry Gardiner MP, the Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade, in outlining issues facing the labour movement over the coming months and years. What makes the conference all the more relevant is that the West Midlands gave the largest leave vote of any region in the UK to leave during the referendum, closely followed by the East Midlands who delivered the second largest leave vote of any region in the UK.

The conference will also hear from leading industrial specialists and trade unions to outline key objectives and concerns around exiting the EU, future post-Brexit trade deals and their likely and possible impact on public services and the Midlands economy.

Key note speakers will be;

  • Sir Keir Starmer MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the EU

  • Barry Gardiner MP, Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade

  • David Bailey, Professor of Industrial Strategy, Aston Business School

  • Jude Brimble, GMB National Secretary, Manufacturing Section

  • Allison Roche, Unison National Policy Officer

  • Howard Beckett, Unite Assistant General Secretary

The event will be chaired by Kate Hudson, TUC Midlands Chair (designate) and Regional Secretary of the CWU.

The event will begin with a networking lunch from 12 midday with the conference commencing at 1pm.

This is a free event but spaces are limited, so please book your place early.
