TUFLOW 2018 Conference Bristol

(18th & 19 April 2018)

The TUFLOW 2018 conference returns to Bristol in April 2018 and will have a mix of presentations, workshops and round table discussions involving a range of flood related topics. Our themes for this year's conference reflects the interests of TUFLOW users. The role of TUFLOW in natural flood risk management and urban flood risk will be two areas presented at the conference from a range of professionals. Our goal is to explore innovative and novel uses of TUFLOW within the conference to help professionals in all aspects of their work.

Who Should Attend?

  • Flood Risk professionals with experience of hydraulic modelling using 2D techniques.

  • Project managers in the Environment Agency, Local Authorities and Consultants; particularly those responsible for delivering flood risk assessments, flood risk and coastal erosion strategies and surface water management plans.

Presentations, Workshops & Round Table Discussions

Attendees will be able to attend a range of presentations, workshops and round table discussions. Stream 1 will include a varied suite of presentations which include:

  • UK Reservoir Flood Mapping Study using TUFLOW HPC (High Performance Computing)

  • National Scale Assessment using TUFLOW GPU in Sri Lanka

  • Natural Flood Risk Management using genetic algorithms (Calibre)

  • Brisbane River Catchment Flood Study using Monte Carlo Assessment

Stream 2 will include Roundtable Discussions and Workshops including:

  • Meet the Author: An opportunity to shape the future of TUFLOW with your ideas

  • Modelling Bridges and Other Structures: New Benchmarking and Comparisons of 1D and 2D Solvers

  • Buying and optimising hardware for use with TUFLOW HPC and TUFLOW GPU

  • Python Scripting: Improving your workflow efficiency

The final sessions will be run by Bill Syme and his colleagues at BMT WBM who will showcase

  • New features in the 2017 release of TUFLOW and discuss the future of the software.

  • TUFLOW 2017’s New HPC Solver (TUFLOW GPU Mark II)

  • Cloud Simulation using TUFLOW

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Walk / cycle: Bristol Zoo is located in Clifton 15-20 minute walk from Clifton Down Station in Bristol and not far from Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge. Cycle parking is available outside and nearby for those local to Bristol who would like to come by bike.

Public transport: The number 8 bus leaves direct from Temple Meads to the City Centre and to the Zoo. Visit Travel Bristol or call Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 for public transport details. Clifton Village is a 5-10 minute walk from the Zoo.

Car: At junction 18 of the M5, exit toward A4/A403/Bristol/Avonmouth/Docks. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Portway/A4 heading to City Centre/Bristol/A38. Sharp left onto Portway/A4176 (Bridge Valley Road). Continue to follow A4176. Bristol Zoo is located on your right hand side at the top of Bridge Valley Road. There is parking at the Zoo but numbers will be restricted and those coming by car should be aware that resident's parking is operational throughout Clifton during the day.
