Event description

Description

The Tumbling Lassie Seminar 2019, in a new extended format to maximise the chances for knowledge exchange and networking, focusses on the problems of bonded labour in Scotland and elsewhere and on international interventions to stop the modern trade in human beings. Speakers will include: Kath Harper, the Advocate Depute who prosecuted the McPhee case in Scotland, and Alex Prentice QC and Stephen O'Rourke QC, who appeared in the case in the appeal court; Professor John Cairns, University of Edinburgh, providing an historical perspective on bonded labour in Scotland; Kirsty Thomson of Just Right Scotland; John Wyllie of Police Scotland speaking on issues in international intervention to prevent trafficking; and Kenneth Murray, Forensic Accountant, Police Scotland on evidence building in exploitation cases. Delegates will also be updated about the work being done at home and abroad by the charities supported by the Tumbling Lassie appeal 2019, SOHTIS and IJM. Refreshments during the day, a light lunch and a drinks reception are all included in the ticket price.

The event qualifies for 5 hours of CPD for members of the Faculty of Advocates.

The Tumbling Lassie Committee gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Faculty of Advocates in enabling this event to take place and in providing financial support to maximise funds raised through ticket sales.
