Event description
On 3rd October at York Natural Health we are offering clients a full day workshop from 10 am - 4 pm focused on digestive issues.

About this Event

POSTPONED UNTIL 3rd OCTOBER 2020 due to current pandemic of Coronavirus.

Tummy trouble?

Is poor digestion restricting your activities and controlling your life?

Do you dislike using too much medication and prefer to take control of your own well-being?

Are you looking for natural ways to help you feel better?

Many people who suffer from long standing gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, diarrhoea, constipation or both, gas, abdominal cramps can find life difficult to manage. Sometimes these symptoms are given the diagnosis of irritable bowel. They can be triggered by food, stress and even hormones. Often the precise cause isn't known and there is often a combination of factors that cause the symptoms to appear. Functional medicine can help to identify the cause(s) by looking at whether there are any infective organisms, overgrowth of or imbalanced gut bacteria, food sensitivities, enzyme deficiencies and inflammation to name a few culprits.

Nutritional therapy can help you understand the relationship between some of the symptoms and triggers, and can provide you with some simple and healthy dietary and lifestyle suggestions that may help with managing these symptoms.

Often digestive symptoms appear around a particularly stressful time in our lives. We forget that the mind and body are connected and that every thought we have produces a physical response in the body. Have you noticed what happens in your body before an exam or a job interview? Most people feel a “nervousness” in their stomach. This feeling is one of the many changes that happen in the body as it prepares for what we perceive as a threatening situation. This is known as the stress response or more commonly, fight or flight.

The stress response is normal, even essential in times of danger, it is meant to be a temporary state which helps us to rise to the presenting challenge. However modern life and the thoughts, worries and anxiety we have about our lives can leave this stress response switched on most, if not all of the time, this plays havoc with many of our body systems including our digestion.

Activities which help you to feel more relaxed and calm the stress response can be useful for gut related issues. Whether that’s practising meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, walking in nature, gardening, or an absorbing hobby (though not something which is both sedentary and stimulating). Whatever allows your body to move out of fight and flight into rest and digest mode can be helpful. That’s why hypnotherapy has been used for non-specific gut related issues for many years, as well as facilitating regular relaxation it also encourages more useful, healthy thought patterns.

This is an opportunity to:

1. Gain insight from two natural health practitioners of different disciplines.

2. Learn how to start a gut reset programme using the principles of nutritional therapy.

3. Find out about some of the more common functional tests and how these can be used to identify possible causes of symptoms.

4. Take away suggestions for gut friendly menus.

5. Understand how stress can impact on your digestive system and practice simple, effective techniques to calm the stress response.

6. Experience a relaxing gut focused hypnotherapy session within a group environment.

Also included in the cost of £65 is a pre-event 15 minute phone call to discuss what you would like to achieve from the workshop, the audio recording from the hypnosis for IBS programme (CD or MP3) and a simple healthy (vegan/gluten free) lunch that's easy on the digestion.
