Speaker: Kenji Takeda, Microsoft

Researchers at The Alan Turing Institute are taking advantage of the Microsoft Azure cloud to perform better, faster, and more reproducible data science research as part of the Microsoft cloud computing partnership.

This session will introduce you to cloud computing, show you what is available, and highlight how Azure can be used for your research. There will be several options of hands-on labs for you to try, so come along if you want tinker with deep-learning for image recognition, natural language processing, speech recognition, deploying machine learning apps using R and Python, mining academic publications, and analysing IoT data. We’ll show how easy this is with concrete examples and tutorials of AI and machine learning in data science, engineering, environmental science, genomics, humanities, medicine, and social sciences. See guide.

The session will comprise 30 min introduction and discussion, followed by a 60 minute hands-on lab where you have a choice of options to get started with Microsoft Azure. See guide.

To ensure you are able to complete the hands-on walk-through, bring your laptop – charged up! Our hands-on labs support Linux, Mac and Microsoft Windows users. Also, make sure you have a Microsoft Account (such as, Outlook.com). You can sign up here for a new, free account. There are no other download or software requirements.
