Event description

Description

Late June sees the garden in full bloom, with cascades of scented climbing roses and a rich tapestry of colour in the borders. Explore the enchanting series of garden spaces including the dry garden with its grasses and pots of succulents, the cool shady spring garden under old apples trees, grassy glades under mature trees, and courtyards with colourful bedding and a pool and fountain. Bring a picnic blanket or find one of our secluded benches and take a moment to relax, read or just enjoy the surroundings.

Turn End Garden was created by Peter Aldington as a natural extension to the house. It is rich in unexpected angles, nooks, vistas, and made up of a variety of distinct styles. In December 2017, Historic England added Turn End’s garden to the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England and listed it at Grade II. Turn End is one of only two post war examples where both the house and garden are listed by Historic England. It is also home to two artists’ studios. Tucked into the heart of the village, the garden has become a source of inspiration for landscape designers and horticulturists, as well as amateur gardeners. As an ensemble, the house and garden are widely regarded as a prime example of the blend between architectural and landscape design.
