It's easy to view erosion of coastal archaeology and the threat to this island’s heritage through a negative or protective lens, but are efforts better expended accepting the anticipated loss and using the opportunities provided to record and research this intriguing archaeological resource in new and innovative ways?
Join us at UCL to hear from leaders in the field about their projects and solutions to preserve our past around the coastline of the UK. Along with speakers from the CITiZAN project are a variety of major organisations including the National Trust, CHERISH, SCHARP & the Nautical Archaeology Society to share details of their work. Thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, tickets are FREE and include lunch and an evening reception to be held in the South Cloisters, UCL. We hope you can join us to celebrate this years theme of Intrigue and Opportunity on the foreshores of the UK!

Organiser of Turn the Tide: 4th Annual CITiZAN Conference
Much of our island’s history is simply being washed away. Significant archaeological sites along our coast and on the foreshores of our tidal estuaries are being eroded by winds, waves and winter storms. CITiZAN is a community archaeology project which trains volunteers to record and monitor these fragile sites before they disappear.
We are generously supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with match funding from National Trust and additional support from Historic England. CITiZAN is hosted by MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) and by our partners the Council for British Archaeology and the Nautical Archaeology Society.
Our new approach will focus on six Discovery Programmes dotted around the English coast.
