Event description

Description

This is a free 'mini' performance with the the innovative and popular ‘Turned on its Head’ team and their ‘Sponge’ production for babies aged 6 months and young children up to the age of three;

Roll, squeeze and pop yourself through a new malleable kind of family dance show, set to a 1970s-influenced score, perfect for babies, young children and families. Sponge is about all things spongy, a child’s ability to soak information up like a sponge and the squishy, squashy texture that fascinates children and adults alike.

Dance company Turned On Its Head makes exciting participatory theatre for early years, taking children on a creative journey, engaging audiences throughout its performances and encouraging lots of family interaction. Everything in Sponge can be made with simple materials at home so there’s plenty more fun to be had after leaving the theatre.

The performance sits within a larger workshop for MMU students to learn about working with babies and toddlers in creative ways and we would love to be able to show them the principles in practice with a lively young audience. As such, please be aware that there is likely to be an audience of adults observing your children. No photographs will be taken and all students are DBS checked. The production will be half an hour from 2-2.30. Our campus is very close to Hulme Community Garden Centre and Z-arts so this could be part of a bigger day out. We have a cafe and baby change facilities.
