Turner Memorial Home was designed by renowned (and Liverpool‐born) architect Alfred Waterhouse, one of the most prominent exponents of the C19 Gothic Revival. A prolific and high profile practitioner, notable commissions include Manchester Town Hall (1868‐78) and the Natural History Museum, London (1873‐81). The Turner Memorial Home was constructed 1881‐84 in Waterhouse’s signature Gothic Revival style. It has been in continuous use supporting its residents since the building was completed, a remarkable feat and testament not only to the durability of Waterhouse’s building, but also to the generations of dedicated care providers.
