Join us for a free teacher workshop exploring TurtleStitch.

On Tuesday 16th September 2025, 4-5pm, WMG Outreach are running a free workshop for teachers to introduce TurtleStitch. It’s a user friendly, block-based programming language that is free to use: www.turtlestitch.org. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own design and see it stitched onto fabric using a digital embroidery machine. TurtleStitch is particularly useful for cross-curricular projects as it links computing, maths with design and technology.

This workshop is aimed at teachers of KS2 (years 5 and 6 students) and KS3. All teaching materials used are freely available on the WMG Outreach website: www.warwick.ac.uk/turtlestitch

The workshop is hosted at the Let’s Make space at Rugby Library, and we’ll use their embroidery machine to stitch the designs that participants make.

Margaret Low works with young people encouraging them to become creators as well as consumers of technology in her role as Director of Outreach and Widening Participation for WMG, University of Warwick. Margaret’s interactive workshops explore creative aspects of technology. She collaborates with organisations and communities to explore inclusive, creative learning experiences using technology. Margaret uses TurtleStitch as an approach to physical computing. It bridges the world of programming and textiles in a way that is accessible to young and old alike, bringing a very creative and practical dimension to computer programming.
