Tutored Life Drawing Course

Welcome to Life Drawing in Bristol! Led by local Bristol artist Beth Kirby, we've been teaching classes in Bristol for 6 years and for the first time we're introducing a tutored life drawing course.

This consists of 6 weekly 2-hour sessions on Monday evenings, 6:30pm - 8:30pm. The course runs from 6th October - 13th November 2025.

Over 6 weeks, we will cover the basics of life drawing, from anatomy, to expression, to shading and everything inbetween. The class is small and intimate, allowing for you to ask questions and gain support from Beth (and other students!) as you develop your skills. In each class we will be drawing from a live professional model.

Beth teaches with a focus on finding your own way to draw, with an emphasis on paying close attention to what you see and building confidence, rather than maths and measuring.

This is a great class for people with very little drawing experience who don't know where to start, or those who have given life drawing a go, but wish they had a bit more of a toolkit to work with.

What's Covered?

You'll receive full course information when you book on, including a detailed week-by-week plan and information on materials (most of which are provided!).

Here's the main subjects for each week:

Week 1 - Basic Anatomy

Week 2 - Gesture & Expression

Week 3 - Putting it Together

Week 4 - Light & Shade

Week 5 - Tricky Bits

Week 6 - Let's Do This!

Each ticket provides you access to a full 6 week course, where you must attend each session during the 6 weeks. If you need to skip a session, it won't be refunded or replaced (sorry!)

If you want to take this course, but are worried about affording one lump sum, please get in touch by dropping me an email.

We do provide a separate tutored drop-in session if that's more your thing.

Frequently asked questions

Where are you?

We're in Hamilton House, Stokes Croft. Use the Stokes Croft entrance, which is above the Canteen bar and Orchard cafe and up 3 large concrete steps.

What are the accessibility limits?

There is an accessible entrance via the Canteen bar. We have lifts so are full wheelchair accessible. Get in touch if you have any other accessibility needs.

Is there parking?

Hamilton House does not have parking, but many residential roads in the area are either permit parking which is free in the evenings, or have pay and display machines.

What should I bring?

You'll be provided with full information upon booking, but most materials will be provided. We do however suggest you bring a variety of HB - 7B pencils, erasers and charcoal. Don't forget to wear clothes you don't mind getting messy in!
