Tutored Life Drawing with Jake Spicer
Wed 12 April 2017, 18:00 – 19:30 BST
I am DELIGHTED to say that Jake Spicer, author, tutor and artist extraordinaire, will be visiting Edinburgh for a few days in April. Apart from being one of the nicest people I have ever had the good fortune to meet, he has tutored countless classes from beginner to advanced, and, having modelled for a few of them, I can say his teaching style is clear and straightforward, playful and fun.
In this class we will focus on improving the proportion of your life drawings, using an understanding of the skeletal landmarks that underpin the pose and negative spaces surrounding the figure.
Thereafter you are welcome to stay for the life drawing session which will run 8-10pm, and feature the beautiful Hayley working with an enormous mirror placed on the floor. More info and tickets for that alone, here.
You are welcome to bring your favoured drawing materials but we'll provide the basics for this one. There will be some easels set up too! I'll run a raffle bar and maybe even make some nibblets. Doors at 5.45!
6 - 7.30pm ¦ Tutored session only ¦ £10 (£8)
6 - 10pm ¦ Tutored session plus life drawing after (£15 (£12)
I work from a small studio in a heroic tower block in Brighton, halfway between the sea and the South Downs. I love to draw, and whenever possible I help other people to draw more confidently and competently. I run a small drawing school, Draw, where I work with other tutors and life models to run drawing courses and affordable drop-in life drawing sessions, accessible to everybody and I am a co-director of 'The Drawing Circus', running themed drawing events in unusual locations.
I write books about drawing, a monthly column for Artist & Illustrators magazine and give lectures and classes on the applications of drawing as a tool for understanding, communication, artmaking and as a vehicle for social good. I'm also undertaking a long term study into the fundamental processes of drawing - I paint when I can.
