Event description

Description

Performance by the Pathological Theatre troupe (around 60’); written, directed and performed by Dario D’Ambrosi.

The event will be held in Italian, without tranlsation.

The performance starts with the screening of a film set in New York, where a psychiatric patient wanders with an empty birdcage without a destination. After a long wandering, the insane man arrives in front of a theatre’s door: the performance shifts from the film to the stage. The external society becomes the audience, and the spectator is forced to face diversity through an interactive theatrical experience.

The monologue was presented for the first time at the Caffe’ la Mama in New York in the 70s, and since then has been replicated in several international contexts.

The Pathological Theatre Association was created in 1992 and is still directed by his founder Dario D’Ambrosi. For almost 30 years the association has dealt with the unique and universal task of finding a contact between theatre and the environment where mental illness is studied and where people with serious mental diseases are treated. In 2016, the Pathological Theatre Association opened in collaboration with the University of Tor Vergata in Rome and the Ministry of Education the first worldwide university course “Integrated Theatre of the Emotions”, directed to physical and psychological disabled people. This unique reality aims to help disabled people whose educational rights are not properly guaranteed.

Dario D’Ambrosi is an actor, director and author of theatrical performances focused on the thoughts and behaviours of mentally ill patients. As a film and television actor, he starred in the film The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson playing the flogger of Christ and in the television series Romanzo criminale ("Crime Novel - the Series") in the role of assistant commissioner Scialoja.
