At the end of 2014, the Group Board revised Mace's approach to safety behaviour as part of the ‘Safety first. Second nature.' programme.
In 2015, this new approach led to the Health and Safety Department working with theatre-based learning provider AKT Productions (AKT) to develop the new training programme that focuses on our employees' attitudes to ‘Safety first. Second nature.' and what is expected from our leadership team.
What are we trying to achieve?
The aim of the training programme is to develop the attitudes and behaviours of our employees and supply chain by embedding health and safety standards in everything we do.
We strive towards a culture that breathes health and safety every day; a culture where industry leading practices are a priority throughout all of our offices and projects around the world. By developing this training we hope to equip our people, suppliers and stakeholders with the expectations that ensure they go home safe and healthy at the end of each day, every day.
What does it involve?
The programme uses a blended method of learning and encompasses actors, videos and a number of interactive workshops across four modules, each differing in seniority within Mace and our supply chain.
Module 3 Managers Training has been developed to reinforce the expectations of managers and supervisors and their roles in leading and influencing attitudes and behaviours towards health and safety.
The module covers areas including communication, leading and supporting safety conversations, managing changes in the work plan and being an active safety leader.
