The TWIC Autumn Conference will provide an opportunity for all those interested in wildlife recording and conservation across the region to join together at the end of the season.

Talks will showcase a number of recording initiatives and citizen science studies in southern and central Scotland that are furthering our knowledge of wildlife and sometimes using novel approaches in pursuit of their target organism!

The event will also host TWIC's AGM and the presentation of the Bob Saville Award for an outstanding contribution to recording in our region.

As usual the event is FREE to attend and includes a buffet lunch, but booking is essential. There will be a raffle and other items to purchase, so please bring cash if you are interested in these.


Programme

10:00: Registration and coffee/tea

10:30: Welcome and introduction - Sarah Eno (TWIC Chair)

10:40: Mountain hares of the Lammermuirs - Graham Pettigrew

11:20: Carri-on Recording Silphid Beetles - Ashleigh Whiffin (National Silphidae Recording Scheme)

12:00: Tea/coffee

12:15: Buglife Scotland’s Marvellous Mud Snails project - Alasdair Lemon (Buglife)

12:45: Buffet lunch & TWIC AGM

Please take the opportunity to look at the displays and purchase any raffle tickets. The AGM will be held at 13:15 in the meeting room on the ground floor.

13:35: Presentation of the Bob Saville Award

13:45: Changes in status of breeding birds in Lothian & Borders over a 20 year period - Mark Holling (Scottish Ornithologists’ Club)

14:25: Update talks:

Results of the Southern Scotland Bat Survey - David Jarrett (BTO Scotland)

14:55: Tea/coffee

Raffle prizes will be available to be claimed at tea break and conference end.

15:10: Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels - Alexa Seagrave (Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels Project Officer – South Scotland)

15:40: Hugging trees for science: results of the Track a Tree project - Christine Tansey (Woodland Trust/ University of Edinburgh)

16:20: Summing up - Rob Briers (TWIC Director)

16:30: Conference ends

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

By train: Stow train station is a short (6 minutes) walk from the venue. See: www.scotrail.co.uk/sites/default/files/assets/download_ct/sr1705_newcraighall-tweedbankv2.pdf for a timetable. Note not all trains stop in Stow.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

There is no need to bring your ticket to the event as we will have a list of registered delegates on the registration desk.
