The TWIC Autumn Conference & AGM: Urban Wildlife is an event to learn more about the wildlife that inhabits our built environment.

About this Event

Join us for our Autumn Conference to meet naturalists and recorders from across our region and hear an interesting set of talks. The theme this time is "Urban Wildlife" and our programme will focus on the opportunities and the challenges provided by the built environment, with speakers from some of the UK's leading charities, plus eminent ecologists and naturalists.

The one-day conference will also include TWIC's Annual General Meeting (AGM) for members and the presentation of the Bob Saville Award, to recognise the outstanding contribution of an individual or group to biological recording in the TWIC area.

Cost £10 (£5 student) plus booking fee. Cost includes a buffet lunch.

Programme:

10:00: Registration and tea/coffee

10:30: Welcome and Introduction - Lucy Hoad (TWIC Director)

10:40: Lichens in the City - Rebecca Yahr (RBGE)

11:10: Glasgow’s Grassland Water Voles - Cath Scott (Glasgow City Council)

11:40: Tea/coffee break

12:05: The Dark Arrows – Swifts and Swifts Conservation - Toby Wilson (RSPB)

12:35: Open Mike Session - A chance to promote your own surveys or recording initiatives.

12:50: Buffet lunch and stalls - Please take the opportunity to look at the displays and purchase any raffle tickets.

13:50: TWIC AGM: All welcome, but only TWIC members can vote on any resolutions.

14:10: Presentation of the Bob Saville Award

14:25: The Scottish Biodiversity Information Forum– Update and Next Steps - Rachel Tierney (SBIF)

14:55: Tea/coffee break - Note raffle prizes will be available to be claimed at tea break and conference end.

15:20: Records on Rooftops - Apithanny Bourne (Butterfly Conservation)

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Public transport

The nearest train stations are Linlithgow, Uphall and Livingston.

From Linlithgow High Street, the SD travel Bus number 31 runs hourly and brings you 5 minutes walk away from our venue at the stop: Ecclesmachan, at Parish Church.

Car parking

Free, at venue.

What can I bring into the event?

Please bring cash if you would like to purchase raffle tickets or TWIC membership. If you have any items for the raffle these would also be gratefully received - please bring them on the day.
