We are very excited to be welcoming Kirtan Nottingham for an afternoon of Kirtan, mantra, meditation and lighting a lamp to celebrate the sacred month of Kartik to awaken our inner light and dispel darkness.
During this auspicious month of Kartik, lighting a lamp is a devotional act of offering light to the divine, especially Lord Damodara (Lord Krishna) as a symbol of love, and spiritual awakening. It is believed to bring spiritual benefits and a closer connection to the divine.
The afternoon will include Kirtan, Lamp lighting and story telling of the pastimes of Krishna as a child when he was bound by Mother Yasoda for stealing butter!
We think of Kirtan as singing yoga. It's a way to connect with community and the Divine through the Universal, ancient and powerful sounds of the Sanskrit language. Kirtan can be profoundly healing, uplifting, and just plain fun! In today's times, we don't often find the opportunity to sing in community and this provides a really approachable yet deep way to join our voices in a really positive way.
No experience is necessary and you don't need a good singing voice. These events are joyous and uplifting and a great way to connect with the others and to something much bigger than ourselves. We are very much look forward to welcoming you ❤️
