Event description
Cancer survivor turned comedian Mandy Tootill shows us why laughter is the breast medicine.

About this Event

In collaboration with BreastFest a month long campaign raising awareness for Prevent Breast Cancer. The University of Manchester proudly presents Mandy Tootill - Twin Peaks (Nominated for Best Comedy Manchester Fringe and Best Comedy Performer Buxton Fringe 2018).

Twin Peaks is an honest and fearless account of being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 30. Mandy is an idiot, but she is hilarious and adorable so that makes it ok. Sometimes horrible things happen to even the most foolish of fools, but how does Mandy cope when faced with her own mortality? In the only way an idiot can; with sheer determination and wit.....after all laughter is the breast medicine.

“Mandy gives an empowering two fingers to cancer in this hilarious tale of the human spirit.” ★★★★ To Do List

From sex with her girlfriend with a pair of Marigolds to befriending a mannequins head called Celine, Mandy overshares it all in a show that is original, unsentimental and disarmingly funny. Cancer is a bit like Voldemort, people are frightened to speak the very name itself, by using humor Mandy breaks down those barriers in her own endearing way to give the audience a better understanding of the person behind the cancer.

“Touches the heart and leaves you crying and laughing simultaneously.” ★★★★ North West End

Mandy started her comedy career in 2014 and she has been making people spit their drinks out with laughter ever since. People laugh at her warm Wigan wit and at her face. Mandy has been getting her Twin Peaks out all over the place and has just got back from Edinburgh Fringe where people compared her to Victoria Wood and everything. Mandy is now proper chuffed to be getting her Twin Peaks out at Manchester Museum for a fantastic cause.

Those from the University of Manchester might recognise her face from Media Services (yes, it is me, surprise).

We are a hive, a family, a movement

Working together we can build a future free from breast cancer!

With the help of BooBee our official mascot we aim to pollinate awareness and spread our wings across Manchester and beyond. Making Greater Manchester the most breast aware region in the UK!...

Our bright pink bus will be providing breast cancer awareness advice throughout the month of October also breast cancer awareness month and promoting the importance of self-checking and screening. Visitors can speak to medical professionals as well as ‘our BooBees’, a 100-strong team of inspiring BreastFest ambassadors who have been personally affected by the disease.

Who we are

Predict. Prevent. Protect. You could call it our mantra. As the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, we’re committed to freeing the world from the disease altogether. Unlike many cancer charities, we’re focused on preventing, rather than curing. Promoting early diagnosis, screening and lifestyle changes, we believe we can stop the problem before it starts. And being situated at the only breast cancer prevention centre in the UK, we’re right at the front-line in the fight against the disease.

We predict – by identifying who is at risk of breast cancer

We prevent – by offering preventative interventions, to stop breast cancer before it starts

We protect – our goal is to shield future generations from breast cancer

Together we can protect our future generations. Together we can PREVENT BREAST CANCER.
