Event Details

This iconic coast and castle photography course in Northumberland is one of Keith’s most spectacular locations in the UK for landscape photography. Participants will have the opportunity to photograph Northumberland’s most picturesque scenery, including Lindesfarne (Holy Island), Bamburgh Castle and Dunstanburgh Castle.

Keith will show the group how to use a light meter to accurately asses correct exposure. He’ll cover composition, depth of field where to focus as well as which filters to use and when and how to use them.

The group will meet at 10am each day, and will spend one day on Holy Island. We’ll spend the day seeing all the stunning sites Holy Island has to offer including Lindisfarne Castle, Lindisfarne Priory, and the harbour.

Depending on tide times and light, the next day will either start at Bamburgh Castle or Dunstanburgh Castle. At Bamburgh Castle and the surrounding areas the group will be able to capture the sand dunes, coast and other scenic locations around the castle, and then onto to the rugged coastline surrounding Dunstanburgh Castle.

”This is a beautiful and rugged part of the country where it’s almost impossible to leave without having taken some stunning images”.. Keith

The course is designed for photographers at all levels. Workshops are limited to a maximum of 4 people so that Keith can give quality time to each individual. There will be numerous opportunities over the two days for one to one time with Keith to answer any questions. Keith teaches in a practical way by showing, using straight forward, uncomplicated language.

Testimonial:

“I have just returned from a two day black and white landscape course in Northumberland and have had an awesome weekend. Keith knows the landscape well and can take you to just the right spots to capture the best images possible for your portfolio. He keeps it simple and generously shares from his vast knowledge and experience, but without overwhelming you with too much information.

Keith Moss: Keith Moss Photography

I love photography, I absolutely love it I know it’s a cliche but it’s my passion. Ask me to choose which is my favourite genre of photography and I would say that would be like asking a parent which is their favourite child. So I will say that my favourite genre of photography is the one I’m doing at the time. If I’m doing street photography I’m in the zone and loving that, If im doing landscape photography I’m being fulfilled loving that, if I’m doing portrait photography whether in the street or in the studio… well you get the picture.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been able to do photography as my job as well as my hobby. Over the last 30 years I’ve worked for many companies working nationally and internationally and for many blue-chip companies such as Unilever, Hilton International Hotels, Barker and Stonehouse, Laura Ashley and Mercabarna which is a wholesale market in Barcelona. I’ve learnt a lot, mostly on the job in the early days to be honest. I didn’t study photography at collage or university I studied it on the job, so to speak. Learning on the job made me think differently and quickly having to solve problems there and then which turned out to be a great advantage.Early on in my career I was a bit embarrassed about being self taught as people seemed to judge me on it but when they saw me work and the images I produced they soon changed their opinion. So I’m proud to say that I’m self taught, I’ve made mistakes but learnt from them and in the days before digital that was expensive both in time and in film. I bought my first camera, an Olympus OM10 and I’d spend days and days just going out and about and in the studio practising, experimenting and learning using both colour and black and white film and then when digital arrived learning that too.

I’ve worked with some of the industry’s most prestigious photography brands, Leica UK, Phase One, and I’m very proud to say that I’m also an Ilford Photo Artisan Partner. They asked me back in 2012 to join this very small group of photographers and obviously jumped at the chance. You can find some of my work for sale there at House of Ilford.

Now I enjoy passing on my experience and the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. Teesside university, Newcastle College, Northumbria university, South Essex College, York university and Cleveland College of art and design are among a few Universities and colleges where I’ve really enjoyed being a guest lecturer and run photography workshops

I’ve also mentored many professional photographers through Digital City and Redcar and Cleveland Enterprise and from time to time have contributed to several physical and online photography magazines like Professional Photographer, Amateur Photographer, Digital Photographer, and Photography for Beginners.

My main focus for my workshops is that you enjoy them and have fun and go away feeling a more confident with your own photography. I teach in a practical way showing you how to do things rather than in a classroom sort of environment, there’s no technical language or jargon used and I keep my workshops small so that I can give you plenty of one to one time.

So if you fancy having a go at street photography including street portraiture or dabbling in the darkroom, it would be great to see you.

If you’d like to see some of my work take a look at my website, like my page on Facebook, follow me on twitter or subscribe to my youtube channel.
