Description

Calling all Illustrators

This workshop covers the essentials to help you make a successful picture book. The two days will include talks and hands-on activities to help you find your creative voice. We will also cover design and typography and story pacing. We will look at developing characters and getting to know the world they live in to help you build a convincing and professional picturebook concept. There will be individual tutorials over the two days, and each participant will receive personalised written feedback about their work over the weekend.

This is a warm, supportive and friendly environment where you can meet other like-minded creatives who are interested in children’s book illustration.

The workshop will take place on Saturday 6th July and Sunday 7th July at The Old School Gallery, Alnmouth.

Lunch and refereshments will be provided on both days.

If you are traveling from afar we can offer accomadation at our camping huts www.alnmouthhuts.com

She is currently working on her second picture book as both author and illustrator with Two Hoots and has completed as illustrator a picture book with Walker Books due out in 2019. Maisie is also a lecturer on the MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art.

Ness Wood is an award-winning book designer, lecturer, published author and has qualifications in design history. She is known for her encouraging, straight-forward and collaborative approach with illustrators and students.

Pam Smy has illustrated folktales, chapter books, nursery rhyme collections, picture books and novels, and specialises in older end fiction. Pam’s first graphic novel, Thornhill with David Fickling Books was short listed for the CILIP Greenaway Award in 2018 and is now working on her next project. She has 18 years of art school teaching experience and, over this time, has developed an understanding of how to nurture creative process and work through ideas with illustrators. She has a passion for observational drawing and sketchbooks.

Ness and Pam worked together on Thornhill, which was awarded the BBD&PA Design Award in 2018 for the Graphic Novel category.
