Two-Day Python Programming Course for GCSE Computer Science

Python techniques for teachers of all abilities, we will cover general programming and project management skills to prepare you and your pupils for any board's NEA, such as: best coding practices; admin; identification and prevention of malpractice; presentation of evidence; authenticating work; marking sample tasks.


DAY 1 - GCSE OVERVIEW AND UNDERSTANDING PROGRAMMING
Sample NEA analysis and skills audit
Variable assignment, data types, selection, and iteration
Creating user interfaces; validation; formatted output
Use of functions with global and local variables
Overview of JCQ guidance, logistics and avoiding malpractice

DAY 2 – ADVANCED NEA-FOCUSSED SKILLS
Files and data, lists, searching and sorting
Bringing it all together – the modular approach

Delegates will each work at a computer and receive collective and individual tuition throughout the day. This is a practical training course that will help you teach GCSE computing, with lots of resources to take away.

We discuss sample NEA solutions only and NOT the live tasks. We believe that sharing solutions to live tasks is unacceptable and contravenes JCQ guidelines. We aim to explain the techniques and the process that will apply to all of boards’ NEAs. We will help you avoid malpractice issues by informing you of procedures and best practices.

Darren Travi
Head of Computing at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe and a CAS Master Teacher, Darren leads the South Buckinghamshire CAS Hub. He has taught A-Level Computer Science since the 1990's, and GCSE Computing since the course started in 2010.


All materials and resources used on this course will be made available to all delegates after the course.
