Event description

Description

An exciting two-day symposium on “Neuroplasticity and synaptic function in neuropsychiatric disorders”.

The following confirmed speakers will be presenting their latest results:

Noboru Komiyama
Michael Owen
Kerrie Thomas
Alcino Silva
Riccardo Brambilla
Kirsty Millar
Kevin Fox
Daniela Tropea
Peter Kind
Martin Korte
Stephane Baudouin

The symposium is aimed at reviewing the evidence that synaptic dysfunction is a primary causal factor in most if not all neuropsychiatric disorders. We will consider the molecular and genetic evidence for the role of synaptic protein mutations in psychiatric disorders before exploring functional studies in mouse models of schizophrenia, autism, and fragile X.

Ideas about cures for these conditions will be presented by Alcino Silva in his talk entitled “Understanding and treating cognitive disorders” and by Riccardo Brambilla in his talk on “Precision medicine approaches to "cure" synaptic and behavioural deficits in Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorders”

A key part of the program will be the discussion around the talks and in breakout groups, which we hope will foster future collaborations. We hope that you can join us on 27th and 28th April 2017. Unfortunately, we are limited to 70 participants and therefore registration (£24.00) will be on a first come first served basis.

PLEASE NOTE: that there will be a dedicated poster session on Thursday, 27th April between 16:20 and 17:30. This will be an ideal opportunity especially for the early career researchers to showcase their work to an expert audience.

If you wish to present a poster, could you please provide your name and research title to Swapna Khandavalli (khandavallis@cardiff.ac.uk) by no later than 17:00 on Friday 21st April 2017. Please ensure to bring along your poster printed in A1 size (preferably in landscape orientation) on the day of the event. The poster boards will be available from 3:00 pm in main foyer, BIOSI 2. If you have any questions regarding the poster session, please do not hesitate to contact Swapna.
