This special walk is part of the Estuary Festival, and is designed to launch the new Thurrock 100 Stories book which will feature all 100 stories, some historical context provided by local historian Jon Catton, and images of all the 100 flags, which we will carry with us on the walk. The walk starts near to the historic Tilbury Fort, built by Henry VIII to protect the Thames from invaders and near which Elizabeth I rallied her troops on the eve of battle. After hearing about the fort we will walk along the historic waterfront to another fort, the 19th Century Coalhouse Fort, where the T100 book will be launched.
Guided tours of the fort wil be available, and you can also stay on for Fort Film Night at 7pm, which will include screenings of river-themed films. To book for that event as well as the walk, click here.
Please arrive at 3:30pm to register etc for a prompt start to the walk at 4:00pm.
