Event description
Our walk, will look at the whole of this varied gridsquare., including the Show Village that was meant to have been demolished!

About this Event

Two Mile Ash is a gridsquare that shows the planning of Milton Keynes in transition. Design and construction work started in the mid 1970s but proposals for three large schemes of rental housing were dropped as the replanning of Milton Keynes responded to the twin changes brought about by firstly, the shift in emphasis away from the New Towns to the Inner Cities and secondly, the election of the Conservative Government in 1979 that turned off the tap for rental housing.

The emphasis switched to sale housing provided by the large volume builders, such as Barratt’s. This was supplemented by some small schemes of shared ownership housing by Milton Keynes Development Corporation’s own architects and outside firms such as Colquhoun and Miller and Neylan and Ungless. We will walk across the whole gridsquare, visit the Show Village that should have been demolished and see the Mormon church by John Parker and Associates and which is an homage to the Prairie houses of Frank Lloyd Wright.
