Event description
We are delighted to be able to invite you to the Networks first ever Wilderness Adventure Day.

About this Event

The Wilderness Adventure Day will take place at ‘Our Paddock’ in the village of Swavesey just outside Cambridge.

The day is open to children with type 1 diabetes age 7-10.

The children will be looked after throughout the day by diabetes health care professionals who will support them with all aspects of their diabetes management.

The day will feature lots of wilderness activities including:

· Team games

· Wilderness adventures

· Fire lighting

· Bush cooking

· Stick whittling

· Wilderness crafts

· Rope craft

· Bug hunting

As part of the day we will be helping the young people to prepare their lunch which they will then cook over fire. This will be a great opportunity for them to learn more about carbohydrate counting at the same time as preparing and cooking a tasty bush lunch. The day will cost £35 per person – subsidised places are available who meet our funding criteria. We hope that this wilderness camp will be a brilliant opportunity for children with type 1 diabetes to make new friends in a safe and secure environment while trying a range of new and exciting bush activities. All bush activities will be led by a qualified forest school instructor.

The camp will take place in the village of Swavesey – which is a short guided bus ride from the centre of Cambridge. Cambridge is a beautiful university city with lots of lovely shops, green spaces and cafes and we would encourage parents and carers to go and relax there while their children are having fun with us at the wilderness camp.
