Ukulele Jam & Open Mic Session

About this Event

If you've got a Uke to strum,

Then come along and join the fun!

Following the success of the three national ukulele sessions, Neil Abrahams of Dulwich u3a invites you to join another relaxed and open Zoom jam session, all abilities welcome.

The session will be open for participants to join in strumming and singing while muted, while different members of the group lead the songs.

Songs will be taken from the Dulwich u3a Ukulele Songbook which will also be displayed on a shared screen during the session.

This session will be led by Neil, who was delighted to receive lots of compliments on the last session in February.

Neil claims that until he joined u3a a few years ago, he hadn’t picked up a ukulele for over 50 years. The Dulwich ukulele group now has around 20 members and has assembled a songbook of over 100 ukulele melodies. Neil has not had any formal musical training and plays the uke for fun and the pleasure of seeing people with no musical knowledge quickly learning to play along. Neil also belongs to another local uke group which plays more ‘modern’ songs and a Yiddish ukulele group.

Neil enjoys finding songs which you wouldn’t necessarily associate with the uke, and also the popular songs from his youth: the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Dusty Springfield, Joe Brown etc. These are the songs that go down well when playing at community centres and care homes which his Uke group look forward to being able to play again soon.

This event is for u3a members only
