U3A Virtual Choir Project

What is it?

U3A members from across the UK are invited to join in a national virtual choir project. All members are welcome, no prior singing experience or expertise required. Whether you are a regular member of a U3A singing group or do not usually have the opportunity to be part of a choir, now is time to warm up those vocal chords and get involved!

How will it work?

Participants will be sent the link to a series of Zoom sessions spanning over 5 weeks; hosted by Richard Keoghoe of Plymouth U3A.

The 1st session will be an opportunity for participants to meet one another and to be introduced to the song Savannah, composed by Richard. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th sessions will be focused on learning the arrangement and practicing the different parts of the song. Participants will be muted when practicing but Richard will be on hand to offer guidance and to listen to individual voices when needed. The 5th and final Zoom session will be a tutorial on how to record your contribution and how to send the audio file to Richard who will then edit the pieces together to produce the finished masterpiece!

You will be able to learn all and any parts of the song from the comfort of your own home and decide for yourselves which part you wish to perform.

Where and how will we the song be showcased?

Once complete, we will be sharing the finished performance on YouTube and across U3A social media channels. Contributors will also be sent the finished audio file to use as they wish.

Choir members will be asked to send in a picture of themselves and state which U3A they are a member of (Trust member’s are also very welcome) so that everyone can be properly credited.

We will also be asking for U3A artists to send in their depictions of the songs’ theme to add aesthetically relevant visuals to the YouTube clip.

When will the choir meet?

The 5 Zoom sessions are scheduled as follows:

Thursday 20th August – 2pm
Thursday 27th August – 2pm
Thursday 3rd September – 2pm
Thursday 10th September – 2pm
Thursday 17th September – 2pm

Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions, however if you are unable to make one please do not let this discourage you from taking part.

How do I get involved?

As long as you are a U3A member you can sign up to the event for free and a link to the Zoom sessions will be sent to you by email ahead of the 1st session. Simple!
