Description

Hauser & Wirth is opening its doors for UCL alumni in the Los Angeles area!

This is an event exclusive to UCL alumni and their guests. You will be given a private tour of the Hauser & Wirth gallery by two experience associate directors, followed by a private presentation on Larry Bell's 'From the 60s' exhibition and snacks provided by Manuela in the Education Loft.

There is so much to see and do, and you're receiving the unique opportunity to be guided by professionals before the public arrives! Don't miss this opportunity to delve into one of the most exciting and comprehensive galleries of modern and contemporary art in Los Angeles and see some of the most evocative art.

The galleries open at 11 am and you will be free to stay as long as you wish, roaming the galleries. You are also welcome to book lunch with the restaurant after the tour.

With thanks to UCL alumni and staff working at Hauser & Wirth.

WHAT'S ON?

You'll be guided through a comprehensive exhibition of expressive black walnut sculptures from the White Snow series by Paul McCarthy, one of America’s most challenging and influential artists. Never before exhibited in Los Angeles, these exuberant works violate expectations of the beloved German folktale ‘Snow White.’ McCarthy’s distorted abstractions of Dopey, the Prince, even Snow White herself, will inhabit the North A gallery.

Takesada Matsutani,’ the first Los Angeles solo exhibition for the Osaka-born, Paris-based artist Takesada Matsutani. An illuminating survey that spans the artist’s career, 34 works from three distinct periods: 1960s Gutai-era pieces never before shown outside of Japan, one of the artist’s largest installations from 1983, and a new pre-figuration of his 2017 Venice Biennale project.

This exhibition offers an expansive look at Matsutani’s unique visual language of form and materials. His paintings, drawings, and sculptures engage themes of the eternal and echo the endless cycles of life and death, revealing the influence of the ethos of Gutai on the artist’s early experimentation and its lasting impact today. The exhibition will also include a site-specific floor work, continuing a long-standing performative aspect of artist’s practice.

The 'Monika Sosnowska' exhibition features a new body of work that responds to characteristic elements of existing 1960s Polish architecture in sculptural installations that reflect and riff upon history and personal experience. Wrought from industrial materials and objects, Sosnowska’s works ‘sample’ various architectural details that she idiosyncratically warps in order to immerse viewers in environments that are both uncannily familiar and disconcertingly surreal.
