Behaviour change is increasingly recognised as key to human wellbeing in a number of areas: improving health, adaptively interacting with buildings and cities, making new technologies maximally useful to us and shaping our lives for the better through small and large political activity.

  • What shapes human behaviour?
  • What stands in the way of long-term, positive behaviour change?
  • How can research inform the design of effective interventions to change behaviour?
  • Where should we most effectively intervene - at the macro or the micro level?
  • How do we measure behaviour change?

The UCL Behaviour Change Prize Workshop will bring together a cross-disciplinary group of researchers to identify possible solutions and ways to convert exciting, innovative thinking into behaviour change research proposals.

The workshop will be guided by a professional facilitator and will build upon the seminars and discussions that have taken place during UCL’s Behaviour Change Month (BCM) through November 2012. The aim of the prize workshop is to stimulate new thinking and to catalyse collaborations across UCL with researchers who work on different aspects of behaviour change and to create new research proposals.

Participants will be asked to work in cross-disciplinary research project groups to formulate proposals which will be judged by an expert panel. The winning team will be awarded a research prize of £10,000 donated by UCL Grand Challenge of Human Wellbeing from an award to the Grand Challenges programme from the UCL Annual Fund (donations from alumni and other supporters of UCL.

This workshop will form the concluding session of UCL’s Behaviour Change events series.
