Join us to learn, share, and network with others in the citizen science community at UCL!

You are warmly invited to the inaugural event for the Citizen Science community at UCL.

This half-day event will explore the broad and diverse approaches to citizen science at UCL. Whether you are already involved in citizen science or want to learn more, this event is a fantastic opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas, connect with peers and engage with colleagues from across the UCL community.

We will feature engaging lightning talks, two interactive workshops, a fascinating citizen science initiative, and a speed networking session to foster collaboration and partnerships across different departments and specialisms.

This interactive event is open to UCL staff and students only and is for anyone interested in or identifying with "citizen science" in the widest sense, regardless of experience or level. UCL supports a broad approach to citizen science, so if you are passionate about public engagement, contributory/collaborative research, or community-led initiatives (or whatever you might call it), then this event is for you!

10:00 - 12:30 - Talks and workshops
Lightning talks: Learn about citizen science units, resources and guidance from around UCL.
Citizen science skills development: Led by Prof. Muki Haklay from UCL ExCiteS (Extreme Citizen Science), develop key skills and competencies in citizen science.
Interactive workshop: Explore how to construct new grant applications and map out UCL expertise in citizen science.
Citizen science project: Hear about the UCL Memory Workshop, our showcase citizen science initiative.

12:30 - 13:00 - Speed networking session (optional)
About the session: Stay for a fun and relaxed speed networking session, engaging in informal conversations to build connections. The event will conclude with an opportunity to continue discussing and exchanging ideas. No specific preparation is required, but you could consider potential questions to ask others.
Accessibility: A bell or buzzer will sound during the session to signal changeover time, indicating when everyone will move around. To ensure an inclusive experience, you will be asked about any accessibility needs during registration. We can provide adjustments for sound sensitivity or mobility needs, so please let us know how we can support you.

Light refreshments will be provided during scheduled break times.
