UCL Engineering Inaugural Lecture Series | Professor Oleg Mitrofanov
Professor Oleg Mitrofanov will deliver his inaugural lecture, marking a key milestone in his career as he reflects on his research in the area of ultra-fast photonics at UCL Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
This event celebrates his promotion to Professor and offers an opportunity to explore his innovative work.
Unveiling terahertz electromagnetic fields
Abstract
A small field of photonics research only two decades ago, terahertz (THz) technology has experienced rapid growth, and it is now viewed as an integral part of future photonics and electronics. It promises applications in wide-bandwidth wireless communications, spectroscopy and sensing, industrial and biomedical imaging, and in fundamental scientific research. In this Lecture, I will overview the development of THz near-field microscopy, the technique that has helped unveil THz electromagnetic fields and related phenomena, playing a key role in scientific investigations and in the development of THz photonics.
Date: Thursday, 19 June, 2025
Time: 17:30 - 20:00
Location: Room G06, UCL Bloomsbury Campus, Roberts Building, Torrington Place, London, WC1E 7JE
