To celebrate the European Day of Languages, come and find out more about UCL Nordic Studies, the oldest Department of Scandinavian Studies in the UK. There will be a pop-up exhibition in UCL Art Museum (4-5pm), showcasing some of the Nordic items in our UCL Collections, followed by a panel discussion and reception to spotlight Faroese language and literature.
The panel discussion (5-7.30pm) will feature Faroese poets Beinir Bergsson and Lív Maria Róadóttir Jæger and their respective translators Marita Thomsen and Bradley Harmon. The panel will be chaired by Dr Mathelinda Nabugodi, Director of Director of Creative Critical Writing and Creative Critical Inquiry (Practice-Related), SELCS, UCL. More details about the authors and their translators into English are available below.
The event is free but, for the panel discussion, please sign up using Eventbrite.
If you would like to learn more about Faroese language and the Faroe Islands ahead of the event, why not listed to Bjarni Steintún’s (Scientific Assistant, Faculty of Faroese Language and Literature at the University of the Faroe Islands) free online language taster on Faroese, part of the series The Language and Culture Show and Tell.
This event is generously supported by The Representation of the Faroe Islands in London and FarLit.
