Please note: There are two dates for this workshop series: 7 October (at The National Archives, Kew) and 15 October (at Senate House, London). Please choose your preferred workshop in the 'Get tickets' section.

The UK Government Web Archive is one of the world’s largest openly accessible internet archives, featuring over 25 years’ worth of digital material published by the government – including a copy of the Treasury website from the 1990s and some of the latest YouTube videos posted by government. It is a resource that is currently underused for research, but holds a wealth of potential for researchers and historians interested in digital and non-digital approaches.

The workshops will offer:

  • Talks from specialists about what a web archive is, and how we preserve and archive internet content
  • A chance to workshop your own research ideas using the web archive
  • Unique insights into the prospects and challenges of running a completely open internet archive
  • Opportunity to make suggestions and shape the future offering from the UKGWA

Each workshop will be half a day with refreshments provided, and there are a limited number of travel bursaries available upon request. Please note, there are limitations on what the travel bursaries can cover, so please contact us to discuss your specific requirements, if needed.

There are two workshops to choose from, one better suited to those that have used web archives in the past or are familiar with the form, and another for those who are new to the resource, but would like to learn more.

The number of participants will be limited to 20. All participants will be expected to attend in person, and would benefit from bringing their own laptop.
