Workshop: Unlocking UK Independent Film Tax Reliefs – Live + On-Demand

** When:** Wednesday, 9 October 2025, 10 AM UK (GMT)** Where:** Online—join live or catch up anytime within 30 days via video-on-demand** Cost:** £15—roughly the price of a Nando’s peri-peri chicken

Why This Matters for Independent UK Producers

If you're making your first feature or navigating the indie route, UK tax reliefs can be a game‑changer for your budget. Here’s the low‑down:

** Audio-Visual Expenditure Credit (AVEC)**

  • Introduced in January 2024, it's the modernised backbone of UK creative tax reliefs.
  • Live‑action features and TV: claim 25.5% on UK‑qualifying expenditure.
  • Animated features and TV (incl. kids’): up to 29.25%.

** Independent Film Tax Credit (IFTC)**

  • Brand new from 1 April 2025, firms shooting from 1 April 2024 onward can benefit.
  • Provides a generous 39.75% rebate (net) on qualifying independent films under £15 million, provided they pass the new BFI UK creative practitioner test.

** VFX Boosts**

  • VFX spend earns 29.25% net credit—and the usual 80% cap on qualifying expenditure is not applied here.

** Cultural Test & Other Essentials**

  • Qualify via a points-based Cultural Test across cultural content, contribution, hubs, and practitioners (need at least 18/35).
  • Must be accounted through a UK‑based Film Production Company (FPC), with the intention of theatrical release.

These tax reliefs can significantly stretch your budget—especially when every pound counts in independent filmmaking.

What’s in the Workshop

During this focused session, you'll learn:

  1. Step-by-step guidance on eligibility for AVEC and the new IFTC.
  2. How to navigate the BFI’s creative practitioner test (e.g., tapping UK writers/directors or BFI low-budget certification).
  3. The FPC setup and accounts essentials—knowing when and how to incorporate.
  4. Maximising budgets via VFX and post-production leveraging the uplift and cap removal.
  5. Live Q&A with hosts who understand the "early-career hustle."

Plus, a recorded version will be available on-demand for 30 days...
