UK Irrigation Association AGM + Technical Meeting
Event Information
About this Event
Water resources for irrigation in eastern areas are likely to come under increasing pressure from the slow creep of saline intrusion below ground. This, alongside the threat of saltwater inundation from a flood, means that coastal soils could be exposed to greater levels of salinity in future.
Salinity is often associated with more arid parts of the world, where there has been plenty of research to explore the impacts. There has been far less research in northern European climates. Since 2018 the EU Interreg project - SalFar, has explored ‘Saline Farming’ – the potential to grow viable crops under more saline conditions – whether that be from a coastal flood, or from more brackish irrigation water. The project involves partners from seven countries of the North Sea Region. In the UK, Iain Gould is the lead researcher for the team at the University of Lincoln.
UKIA AGM starts at 10:00 am (Bring your own coffee and biscuits!)
