Event description

Description

If you ever feel that medicine is a little terrestrial, then this might be the course for you. The Centre for Altitude, Space and Extreme Environment Medicine is proud to present the UK's first Primer on Space Medicine

Over two days, we aim to give medical students and doctors a basic knowledge of the sorts of problems that arise when we venture beyond the Kármán line. With humanity looking to the Moon, and space tourism about to take off; there has never been a better time to get involved with the final frontier.

On Saturday, we will be covering the fundamental physiological changes that occur in the human body under microgravity. From the cardiovascular to the ophthalmic, the aim will be to provide a grounding in problems faced by astronauts. Lecturers will be drawn from UK subject matter experts as well as guests speakers via video link from NASA.

On Sunday, the focus will shift to the more practical and operational aspects. From space emergencies to considerations in sub-orbital space flight, and being rounded off by discussing the different avenues available for UK students/doctors to get further involved in the field. We look forward to welcoming representitives from the European Space Agency to close out the weekend.

Cost: TBC closer to the date - likely to be £25 - 30
