Event description

Description

Jisc UK Research Data Registry Service (RDDS) project

Following on from the initial pilot (phase 1) work, where the Digital Curation Centre (DCC) piloted an approach to a registry service aggregating metadata for research data held within UK universities and national, discipline specific data centres, the second phase of this project will build on this pilot work with the aim of running a UK Research Data Discovery service. The Jisc led project runs till July 2016 and includes further evaluation of ANDS and evaluation of CKAN, metadata standard development and engaging with pilot HEIs and Data Centres that will contribute their metadata to the discovery servive. The project will lay the firm foundations for the service, including a service operation plan and business case for its delivery into the future.

Project Initiation Workshop

This is the first workshop of the second phase of the UK RDDS project and its main purpose is to bring together everyone involved in the project. This includes members of Jisc, the Digital Curation Centre (DCC), the UK Data Archive (UKDA) and participants from the nine pilot HEIs and five pilot Data Centres.

It's the first opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss the plan for the project, the work involved, the governance structures, what's expected from the pilots and the supporting structures required to ensure the project's success. The workshop will also be the start of the process of gathering user requirements and the development of a set of use cases for the Discovery Service.
