Event description

Description

As an important member of the UK100 cities network committed to 100% clean energy transition, we would welcome your attendance at a workshop being jointly hosted by UK100 and Leicester City Council with C40 Cities on Tuesday 21st November in Leicester. Tim Pryce, the Energy and Buildings programmes director for C40, will be speaking from C40 and the aim of the workshop is to share best practice, lessons learned and experience from participating cities and C40 on the clean energy transition.

UK 100 sees this as an opportunity to connect the global insights of the C40 Cities with the ambitious cities in our network. From buses to district heating, waste management to retrofit, there are solutions from across the world we can adopt and adapt to the British context. The more we know, the better decisions we can make that will ensure the 100% clean energy shift grows the local economy and has public support.

Leicester City Council is keen to network with other cities in UK100 to exchange ideas and best practice about how we achieve our goals to a clean energy future. It is now 25 years since Leicester first committed Leicester to the climate change target of reducing emissions of carbon dioxide by 50% from 1990 level by 2025. The last two decades have seen real progress. The city’s District Heating Scheme now connects with 2800 dwellings and 38 operational buildings. Thousands of homes have improved their energy efficiency and hundreds of businesses and organisations have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprint. However we are not complacent, the challenge ahead needs us all to share ideas and best practice to drive our renewable energy forward and achieve real change and we welcome this workshop to share experiences with you.

After the workshop there is an additional opportunity to stay and listen to Mark Watts, the Executive director of C40, deliver Leicester’s Annual Low Carbon lecture on “ Tackling the Climate Crisis: lessons from the world's mega cities"

So please come and join us.

Cllr Adam Clarke, Deputy Mayor for the Environment and Polly Billington, Director of UK100
