The circular economy model aims for the preservation and efficient use of natural resources and materials.

Circular design is one of the fundamental processes that enables the transition towards conservation of natural resources and can significantly reduce the environmental footprint of products and services.

Designers working on the development of products or services, are responsible not only for convenience, accessibility, aesthetic appearance, comfort of their creations, but also for the entire life cycle — from idea to recycling (recycling, reuse, rethinking).

Participants will;

Learn what a circular economy is

Learn what circular design is

Receive a set of tools for the design of products and services on the circular economy principles

Improve the skills of using these tools in practical work in a team with British and Ukrainian participants.

British and Ukrainian students will study in joint groups and work together on projects , both accompanied by experienced Ukrainian and British mentors.

WHO IS THIS COURSE MEANT FOR?

1. Students studying in the field of product design, service design, business from the UK and Ukraine.

2. Designers who are already working in the field of product design, and want to develop in the direction of circular design.

THE PROGRAMME

6 two-hour modules 2 twice a week (12:00-14:00 UK time)

Module 1 (21/09) From linear to circular economy. Research of the life cycle of the product and assessment of its environmental impact.

Module 2 (24/09) Circular design. Basic concepts, strategies, features.

Module 3 (28/09) System thinking in design. The main stages of circular design.

Module 4 (01/10) Circular economy and circular design in various fields: fashion, food industry, plastic production, cities.

Module 5 (05/10) Circular design tools.

Module 6 (08/10) Facilitated group discussion and verification of the level of assimilation of the material.

Practical group work

Alongside the training modules, you will be working on developing prototypes for solving global problems in groups.

Places are limited, participants will be prioritized based on their eligibility, availability and motivation.
