We would like to invite you to find out more about our fully funded 4 year AI PhD studentship programme for 2021/2022. The UK government is funding us to deliver on their £100M commitment to advanced training in Artificial Intelligence. The MINDS Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) at the University of Southampton is a golden opportunity for you if you are creative, innovative, with good attention to detail, able to work with diverse people and communities to understand their particular needs, and are enthusiastic about working at the Artificial Intelligence and Electronics interface to develop systems with beneficial human impact. Our research projects span both fundamental and applied research in AI and machine learning, autonomous systems and robotics, novel electronics for AI, nanotechnologies and intelligent IoT.
We're recruiting top graduates from a wide range of STEM disciplines:

This online event is designed to provide the perfect opportunity for you to learn more about this unique funded PhD programme and the application process, as well as careers in AI for PhD graduates.
We are delighted to have Dr. Rachel Bellamy as our guest speaker in this online event. Rachel is a Principle Research Scientist and Chair of the Computer Sciences Council at IBM T J Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, New York. In this role she heads a Council that manages a Research portfolio of exploratory science projects. Prior to this, she led an interdisciplinary team of human-computer interaction experts, user experience designers and user experience engineers. That team most recently worked on several IBM Research’s Trusted AI projects, including the AI Fairness 360 and AI Explainability 360. Rachel received her doctorate in cognitive psychology from University of Cambridge, UK in 1991. She received a Bachelor of Science in psychology with mathematics and computer science from University of London in 1986. Before coming to IBM Research, she was a Project Lead at Apple Computer’s Advanced Technology Group.
In addition to hearing from Rachel about the importance of diversity in AI research and careers in AI for PhD graduates, in this event you will have the chance to:
- Virtually meet with CDT Director and members of the CDT team
- Learn more about the research areas in our programme and specific projects on offer in collaboration with industry partners
- Learn more about cohort-based PhD research and training
- Meet current PhD students
- Have an opportunity to ask questions from the members of the CDT team, current PhD students and our guest speaker Dr Rachel Bellamy
- Get help and advice in putting together an application
