Event description

Description

The Strength in Places Fund (SIPF) is a competitive funding scheme that takes a place-based approach to research and innovation funding to support significant regional growth. SIPF is led by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), in partnership with the higher education funding bodies of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Office for Students.

SIPF funds collaborative projects between businesses and research organisations, acting in local geographies and backed by relevant local stakeholders, to support innovation-led local growth across any technological area, sector or research area.

Throughout May and June 2019 we will hold a series of information events to publicise the scope and expectations of the upcoming SIPF Wave 2 funding call. Events are targeted at representatives from business and research organisations. Attendance at this meeting is not a pre-requisite for submitting a SIPF proposal. An audio recording of the presentations and slides will be made available on the UKRI website after the events.

The high level aims of SIPF are:

1.To support innovation-led relative regional growth by identifying and supporting areas of R&D strengths that are:

  • driving clusters of businesses across a range of sizes that have potential to innovate, or to adopt new technologies;
  • in order that those clusters will become nationally and internationally competitive.

2. To enhance local collaborations involving research and innovation. Building on the underpinning regional economic impact role of universities, research institutes, Catapults and other R&D facilities (such as Innovation and Knowledge Centres - IKCs); and engaging those businesses at the forefront of delivering economic growth through innovation within the identified economic geography.

More information on the Strength in Places Fund, including documentation for wave 2, can be found on the UKRI website.
