About this event
To get the maximum benefit from the course you need to attend all six classes.
On this six week course you will have fun learning how to accompany songs using chords, strumming and fingerpicking. Aimed at complete beginners.
We will play pop songs from 1960s - 1980, folk song, children's songs.
This course is aimed at complete beginners, peopel who have not played the ukulele before.
You do not need to have any previous musical experience
On this course you will learn:
- How to tune and hold the ukulele,
- basic chords, basic strumming
- How to accompany simple songs
If you do not have a ukulele don't worry, as ukulele hire is available for the duration of the course.
The course is taught by experienced teacher Jacqueline Grant who has been teaching for over 30 years.

No, you do not need to buy a ukulele for this course, but you will need a have a ukulele so that you can practice at your home. That is why, for a small fee and deposit, you can hire a ukulele from us. Or you could borrow one from a friend. Or you can rent a ukulele via the Fatllama website.

The course runs for six weeks. Each session is 75 mins long (1 hour 15 mins).
The cost to hire a ukulele from us for the duration of the course is £15 plus a returnable deposit of £15.
No, you do not need to know how to read music, this course if for complete beginners.
Yes, there is a minimum age. The course if for those 16+ y/o
Yes, but the course is aimed at complete beginners and with be paced accordingly. Thus you may find that you will not learn anything new on this course.
Time is the most important thing. You need time to practice the ukulele at your home everyday.
The course is arranged so that each week builds on the knowledge covered in the previous week. So, If you are a quick learner and think that you will able to catch up, in the case that you miss 1 or two lesson, then it would be OK to miss a lesson a lesson or 2. But if you are a slow learner then i

Pop songs from the 1950 – 1980s as well as children’s songs. There will also be a chance for each student to choose any song of their liking, that they would like to learn to play. If possible we will work towards being able to play the by the end of the course.
