U.Lab at Impact Hub King’s Cross
Starting September 8th, Impact Hub King’s Cross will offer a streamlined, local version of U.Lab: Leading From the Emerging Future to our members and community. The U.Lab is a program from MITx that develops leadership skills, systemic thinking and collective action.
U.Lab is a MOOC designed by the Presencing Institute that incorporates elements such as coaching circles, deep listening, mindfulness and other innovative tools with the aim of co-creating projects for societal change.
This year the King’s Cross U.Lab Hub will focus on a specific theme:
“Reinventing Democracy from the Emerging Future”
We are living in unpredictable times. It is becoming clear that established systems of Government and Democracy are struggling to adapt to the seismic forces that are giving rise to political outcomes such as Brexit and social threats like Terrorism, Climate Change etc.
Given these challenges numerous questions arise such as:
How can democracy be reinvented so that everyone feels they have a stake in it and in society?
How can we create a (local, national, global) democracy in which people feel empowered, listened to and willing to participate?
How do we as changemakers make an impact on systems that feel outdated and stuck?
U.Lab provides a framework for engaging with such questions through sensing and actualising emerging future possibilities rather than reacting to (and thereby perpetuating) the patterns of the past.
How can I join?
Join us for in-depth learning, connecting and prototyping Reinventing Democracy from the Emerging Future becoming an Impact Hub King's Cross member for only £15 per month* ex VAT. Please sign up filling in this membership application form. We've started a 3-month cohort that pairs the U.Lab program with an Impact Hub Membership (September through November).
Not sure yet? Please feel free to get in touch with Alessandro at firstname.lastname@example.org
Why opt for the Impact Hub Membership instead of following the online version by yourself?
U.Lab is an online course that invites offline engagement - people come together to crystalize their passion and bring about change through sensing, co-creating and prototyping; indeed, this is essential for deepening your understanding of the material. When you become a member of Impact Hub King’s Cross, you are a part of a rich, diverse community of purpose-driven people who believe another world is possible.
Our vibrant community offers a great environment for learning, connecting and co-creating - so that your ideas can actually manifest with the support of like-minded people with common intentions. You will also join a global community of over 15K+ other Impact Hub Members worldwide. In this U.Lab course we are specifically looking for teams, or people willing to work in a team, to design and initiate a project in the field of Democracy and Civic engagement.
(NB: if you wish to join the U.Lab course at Impact Hub King's Cross and are not specifically interested in the Democracy aspect do get in touch as we will be accommodating people willing to work on other projects.)
Last year’s cohort met for 6 months after the end of the course to prototype their learnings. You can read more about the journey of last year’s U.Lab Hub at Impact Hub King’s Cross.
