Event description

Description

One-day course: Secure maximum media exposure for your book with this publicity course for authors.

Whether you are an author with a traditional publisher, or self-published, this course will give you the tools to implement a simple and effective publicity plan covering print, broadcast, digital and social media.

Why you will benefit:

With more books entering the UK market each year, there’s more competition than ever for publicity for new titles. Even if you have a publisher behind you, PR campaigns are often limited and most publishers now recommend, or expect, authors to cultivate book publicity alongside them. This course will teach you how to identify and maximise the opportunities for media coverage, whether fiction or non-fiction, children’s or coffee table tome.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Be confident to turn themes in your book into newsworthy story or interview ideas

  • Understand the different formats of stories and features in the consumer press and how book mentions fit into these

  • Identify appropriate publications or broadcast platforms specifically relevant to your book’s genre

  • Create an effective 'pitch list'

  • Know how to research and contact the editors and journalists you need to pitch to

  • Craft a killer pitch that gives the editors and journalists what they need for the story

  • Write and send a killer press release about your book

  • Understand the different lead times for newspapers, magazines, digital and broadcast mediaUtilise the local press

  • Learn new tools to promote your book via social media
