Description

“Great session! Covered so many different important areas, with honest advice. Lots of tips to take away. Thank you.” Ruby Short, Man Bites Dog

“So helpful to understand how journalists work and what they need from PRs,” Laura Gorton, Sainsbury’s

Why PR & Comms professionals should attend this course

In this fast-paced digital world, PRs and communications professionals need to work harder than ever to get their stories and messages into the media. Skills such as storytelling, building relationships and knowing just what journalists are looking for across digital and print platforms are as important as confident pitching and writing powerful press releases.

Run by experienced national journalists and PRs Karen Attwood (ex Independent on Sunday, Press Association) and Becky Howard, (Stylist Live 2016, former celebrity editor of Good Housekeeping) of Nine Media (www.ninemediatraining.com), this course has been specially curated to deliver fantastic, insider content that will leave all levels of PR and media relations teams motivated, energised and bursting with new ideas.

Karen and Becky have considerable experience working on both sides of the journalism/PR divide, so can offer unparalleled insider teachings on what really works.

What does the training cover?

The day consists of five focused sessions covering the following:

Journalist Secrets reveals the inner workings of journalists and how they choose what they cover and why. It covers the day in the life of journalists, how stories make it into the press and the hidden routes to getting coverage.

How to Build a Powerful Network Personal contacts are at the heart of successful PR - so learn how to develop those all-important relationships with journalists the right way.

Press Release Bootcamp covers the essential tools to craft great releases, find the hidden news stories to make journalists take notice and practical tips on sending out your message. The majority of press releases sent to journalists are deleted - learn how to make sure yours isn’t.

Pitch Perfect shows how to target journalists the right way. This session reveals the tips and tricks to get journalists listening to your phone call and replying to your email, including how to tailor your approach to different journalists and what NEVER to say during a phone call.

Twitter Hacks reveals just how Twitter has revolutionised the way journalists work – and how you can use this for you and your clients.

What will I learn?

By the end of the day you will:

- be totally confident in approaching journalists on both email and the phone
- be able to find the hidden news stories for your clients
- understand the importance of tailoring your approach to journalists (and how to do it)
- know how to craft ‘journalist ready’ press releases
- know how to stand out from the PR crowd on social media and create a strong online identity that gets your company/clients results
- feel reenergised and refocused on your day job.

Who is it suitable for?

The training day is suitable for PR and Communications professionals of all levels and sectors. It has been specifically curated with content, advice and guidance to be useful to everyone, no matter what their experience and background.

“Thank you for reminding me why I love PR! Going back to the office inspired…” Amy, Slimming World
