Event description

Description

We'll explore the route from Coed y Brenin back to Dolgellau, including some of the more remote, unmarked trails of the forest and finishing with views down the Mawddach Esturay from the stunning Precipice Walk. This is the third and final leg of Ultra Trail Wales 2019

Description

We will meet in Dolgellau at the Marian car park, and car share to the start in Coed yBrenin. This means that at the end of the run you will arrive back to your transport. Please note that there is a car parking charge payable in Dolgellau.

During the run we will be focussing on managing ourselves at this critical point in the ultra in terms of mental approach, nutrition and self care. Navigation is still important so f you’ve been on a navigation course with us previously we are happy to cover practical elements of that too.

The route starts from just below the Visitor Centre at Coed y Brenin. We then climb and descend on a variety of single track and open forest trails, including parts of the ancient Sarn Helen and contouring beneath Rhobell Fawr, with incredible views out to the Rhinogs. A final ascent from the Forest Garden and old Copper mine brings us to the old Precipice Walk and back down to Dolgellau through the beautiful Nannau estate.

No-one will be left behind. It is not intended to be a ‘running’ day. We will move quickly, faster than walking, but to get the best from the recce, it is not a run.

What level is this?

This route is approximately 29km, with around 900m of ascent. We are anticipating that the recce will take approximately 6 hrs. Although the route is less exposed than leg 1 and 2 you should be confident that you can spend a day in remote areas and are prepared for any weather.
