About this event

Much remains unknown about the experiences of sanctuary seekers, their challenges, and contributions. As a City of Sanctuary, the UK City of Culture and a University of Sanctuary, this public event will follow a two-day workshop with sanctuary seekers living in Bradford.

The workshop will be focused on the co-creation of a board game, along with other participatory creative practices and will offer a space to reflect on what it means to build home, community, and futures in Bradford.

During the public event the wider community will be able to contribute to the conversations with sanctuary seekers and see a sneak preview of what the board game might look like.

This event is a collaboration between researchers in the University of Bradford and Åbo Akademi University, and SBC Theatre, the UKs first Theatre Company of Sanctuary.

It is part of the Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 6 - 15 November 2025. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
